AS Monaco Appeals Exclusion to CNOSF

AS Monaco Basket has initiated its final legal recourse by appealing its exclusion from the Betclic Elite league to the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). The French Basketball Federation's appeals chamber had upheld the decision of the DNCCG, confirming the club's removal from the league. Monaco is now pursuing a conciliation procedure with the CNOSF, aiming to have its admission to the 2026-2027 Betclic Elite season re-examined.

The club stated in a press release, "The club remains fully determined to explore all legal avenues provided by French sports law, while continuing its restructuring process in close collaboration with its institutional partners."

Previously, on August 3rd, AS Monaco's lawyer, Me Xavier Le Cerf-Galle, expressed a glimmer of hope in a statement to *Nice Matin*. He indicated that AS Monaco Basket was actively working on a satisfactory recovery plan for both Monegasque and sporting authorities, with advanced discussions underway. The club reportedly has no outstanding debts to employees, social security funds, the LNB, the FFBB, or its suppliers. A potential buyer would have the opportunity to acquire a financially sound club, provided they meet the financial guarantees required by management control and the legitimate authorities of the Principality, whose support has been unwavering.

The lawyer also mentioned ongoing discussions with Jamal Mashburn and the active search for other potential investors. He acknowledged the time constraints that had been detrimental to the necessary legal and compliance operations in the US, Monaco, and France. While acknowledging that earlier legal discussions could have prevented these issues, he stated that Mr. Mashburn did not commit for reasons he himself would need to comment on.

The lawyer further explained, "The original intention was genuine and sincere, the financial support capacities were real, and the stumbling blocks that prevented the finalization of the takeover plan at the due time could have been resolved with a few more days. However, thinking and saying this cannot guarantee anything. The LNB and FFBB require tangible and documented guarantees. I have read that takeover candidates are in the running. There is nothing preventing them from contacting the club's lawyer to present their project, if they have one, and provide proof of the necessary financial guarantees."

He concluded by stating, "AS Monaco Basket will only appeal to the CNOSF within the legal deadline if the recovery plan is signed and the financing is documented. Otherwise, the sporting authorities will be informed, and a submission dossier for participation in NM1 will be filed."
