Roig Arena Valencia: A Popular Success
The Roig Arena in Valencia has quickly become a symbol of popular success, drawing an impressive 1.7 million visitors and hosting 310 events in its inaugural year. This state-of-the-art venue, primarily funded by Spanish billionaire Juan Roig, owner of the Mercadona supermarket chain and majority shareholder of Valencia Basket, has surpassed expectations.
Designed to accommodate 15,600 spectators for sporting events and up to 18,600 for concerts, the arena's diverse programming has been a key driver of its popularity. Concerts were a significant draw, with 125 shows attracting 800,000 attendees. The venue also hosted nearly 100 professional and institutional events, drawing close to 40,000 participants.
1.7 Million Visitors and 310 Events in the First Year
In its first operational year, the Roig Arena proudly reports 1.7 million visitors across 310 events. The 800,000 concertgoers were split between the main arena (710,000) and the Sala Auditorio (90,000). Notably, 55 concerts, representing 44% of the total, were sell-outs, with Quevedo setting a record for attendance with over 19,000 spectators on October 25, 2025. The venue's operation employs over 250 permanent staff and nearly 700 temporary workers. The second year is already looking promising, with over 90 concerts and around 50 corporate events scheduled.
668,000 Spectators for 70 Valencia Games
Valencia Basket played its first game at the Roig Arena on October 3, 2025. The men's team averaged 12,445 spectators per game, with their first sell-out crowd of 15,600 witnessing a Euroleague quarter-final against Panathinaikos. The women's team also set an attendance record during the second game of the Liga ACB final against Casademont Zaragoza, drawing 7,647 spectators.
Across 70 matches (24 for the women's team in Liga and Euroleague, and 46 for the men's team in ACB, Euroleague, and Copa del Rey), the Roig Arena welcomed a total of 668,000 basketball fans. The arena also successfully hosted the Copa del Rey, attracting over 100,000 people over four days, and is set to host the tournament again in 2027.
The enthusiastic public response has been further fueled by Valencia's team successes, including winning the ACB League and the Supercup, and reaching the Euroleague Final Four.
From La Fonteta with 9,000 Seats to a €400 Million Venue
Prior to the Roig Arena, Valencia Basket played at the Pavelló Municipal Font de Sant Lluís, known as La Fonteta, for nearly four decades, with a capacity of 9,000. The Roig Arena, built on municipal land and financed by Juan Roig for approximately €400 million, opened in September 2025. Since then, the club has surpassed 15,500 season ticket holders for the 2026-2027 season, with 11,900 for the men's section and 3,600 for the women's section.
This new venue has enabled Valencia Basket to significantly increase its budget for the 2025-26 season, from €27 million to €35 million.
